Maurpankhi

At the heart of Maurpankhi lies a vision—one where nature is not just an element of design but the very soul of the home. Every courtyard, material, and open space is crafted to create a seamless dialogue between architecture and the environment. Sunlight spills through carefully planned voids, a majestic tree at the entrance stands as a guardian of memories, and natural materials age gracefully, mirroring the passage of time.

When the family first envisioned their home, they sought a space that resonated with tranquility and connection. The couple’s days are often consumed by demanding corporate schedules, making it essential for their living space to be a retreat—a place where they could pause, breathe, and rejuvenate. “True luxury for them wasn’t about grandeur but about moments of stillness,” shares Pushpender, the principal architect and founder of House & Beyond. “It was about a home that adapts to their rhythm and welcomes them into its embrace.”

This philosophy comes to life in the way Maurpankhi unfolds. Courtyards do more than punctuate the architecture—they bring in light, fresh air, and a quiet sense of openness. At the entrance, an ancient tree was preserved not just as a design feature but as a gesture of respect for the land’s history. A striking curved zinc-clad wall cocoons it, defining the front façade and evolving over time, much like the family’s journey within these walls.”We chose zinc for its robust nature, timeless aesthetic and unique weathering process—it galvanizes beautifully, much like the memories this home will hold,” Pushpender adds.

Stepping inside, a soaring double-height foyer introduces an interplay of light and space, setting the tone for the layers of design that follow. The ground floor is a canvas where formal elegance and nature’s presence harmonize—the drawing room, dining area, and guest suite all positioned to embrace pockets of greenery from the courtyards. Emphasizing a fluid interplay of living, dining, and kitchen areas, are conceived as a cohesive whole. The strategic placement of furniture subtly delineates functional zones, avoiding the imposition of physical barriers. This open layout fosters a harmonious flow between spaces, ensuring unobstructed sightlines and promoting a continuous dialogue between different areas of the home.

Beneath this level, the basement redefines conventional expectations. Engineered without columns, the space is anything but enclosed. A sunken courtyard introduces natural light, transforming it into a vibrant hub complete with a lounge, a bar, and a play area—perfect for hosting, unwinding, or simply enjoying the passage of time.

Upstairs, the home transitions into a more intimate realm, where private sanctuaries take shape with a distinct sense of individuality. The master suite is a cocoon of serenity, the daughter’s bedroom embraces soft pastels and gentle curves, and the parents’ suite radiates understated grace. “This is where the family finds their quietest, most personal moments,” the designer notes. “Each space is a true reflection of who they are.” Bathed in natural light from a central courtyard and expansive fenestrations, these spaces maintain a deep connection to nature. The interiors echo the family’s personalities—whether through the forest-inspired living room, with its vibrant wallpapers and earthy tones, or the daughter's tranquil retreat, wrapped in soothing pastels and fluid forms.

The topmost level serves as a serene retreat, where enclosed spaces flow into the expansive openness of a large terrace. A meditation room encourages mindfulness and yoga, while the son’s bedroom, featuring a cozy reading nook, becomes a sanctuary for academic focus. This level connects seamlessly with the terrace, offering a tranquil space for the family to relax, reflect, and enjoy moments under the afternoon light or starry skies, fostering a deep sense of peace and belonging.

Throughout the home, non-synthetic limewash finishes bring elegance and a soft, sophisticated texture to the walls, contributing to the soothing, mousse-like palette that defines the interiors. These finishes age gracefully, just like the materials chosen, creating an atmosphere of quiet luxury.

Maurpankhi is a dynamic bungalow that evolves with its family members, shaped by the passage of time, cherished memories, and the presence of nature. Every corner and material reflects a life well lived, creating a sanctuary where light, space, and familial bonds come to life. The design harmoniously blends tradition with innovation, individuality with unity. “This home was crafted not just for today, but for generations to come,” reflects Pushpender. The client’s ask - for the home to have more emotional value than just a structure.
